A bright day on a weathered wicket looked promising for a bat and that’s what Suman did after winning the toss. The Timperley openers the Dad-son duo of Suman (46) and Sumed (38) added 86 for the first wicket in 19 overs before Aatrayo Daw (6/30) of Lymm tore through the batting lineup with quick succession of wickets reminding us of a younger Shahnawaz at work with the ball! Somewhat redeemed by Waqar (26) and Sahil’s mature innings of 35 at the end saw Timperley reaching 200/9. Some nice strokeplay all around but a straight drive by Sumed D and a pull by Chris N were the best shots of the day! Classic!
With 200 to defend in 40 overs it was upto the Timperley bowlers to keep their cool and discipline on a turning track. But the game was done before the spinners were even brought on. Waqar holding one end and Jamie and Harry the other, tore through the Lymm line up with ease or at least as it looked! Very disciplined and tight fielding by all on the pitch to support the bowlers was a lethal combination! Waqar (5/21), Jamie (2/11) and Harry (3/9) never let the Lymm batters take any advantage getting their basics right! Lymm were bundled out for 44 in 16.1 overs.
With just 3 adults in the side and the rest all from our junior squads, it was a true ‘Academy Team’ at their best !
Well done boys as we move to our final match next Sunday at Ashley.
Special thanks to Adam for helping out with umpiring and setup.
