You cannot beat an early finish...

On yet another warm day Timperley lost the toss and were invited to field first by Oxton. The pitch was a bit yellow following the dry weather but looked a good one.

Fisher chose to open the bowling with Maddocks and Foster as Goodson had arrived later than the prescribed time and looked as if he was intending to take part in a Zombie apocalypse movie, having had to much refreshment the previous evening. It is fair to say he had looked better...

Timperley made a great start when Foster bowled Cutler with a fast yorker to make it 3 for 1. Rohrer joined Ali and was soon on his way back to the shed having been well caught by Mohan in the gully off Maddocks, having failed to get on top of a cut shot. 6 for 2. Hope and Ali then put on 25 for the third wicket, being severe on anything offered with width. Hope was then bowled by Foster for 9 by a ball that cannoned into the top of middle stump, a peach of a delivery. The Oxton batting crisis deepened when Ali (17) was also bowled by Foster to make it 36 for 4 and Timperley were well on top.

Wightman and Amess looked to rebuild the innings and took the score to 57 before Wightman (5) was bowled by Mohan. Amess fell a couple of runs later and it was 59 for 6. South now took the lead and settled in for the long haul to try and build a total that could perhaps be defended. Unfortunately for him wickets continued to fall regularly at the other end with Mohan claiming another wicket and McIlroy 2 to leave Oxton on 81 for 9 and perhaps Timperley would be chasing under 100.

But it was not to be. South and Abeysekera batted out virtually to time putting on 49 for the last wicket to the deep frustration of the Timperley fielders. Abeysekera batted really nicely for 27 off 40 balls including five fours to show the top order how it is done with South scoring a patient 21 off 67 balls. The innings was ended by Goodson who bowled South to close the innings at 130 all out in 39.1 overs, a figure which would have been substantially lower had regulation catches been taken. Foster led the attack well with 3 for 42 off his 10 overs. Only time would tell if it was a decent score.

After tea, Fisher and Martin opened for Timperley and were soon into their stride with Fisher scoring quite quickly whilst Martin nurdled and accumulated runs. They ran well for a couple of old boys and took some quite sharp singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Fisher had made 57 when calamity struck. Nudging the ball into the leg side Martin adjudged a single for the taking and made the shout. Fisher set off in all haste but was run out by Hope by the mere trifle of approximately half a pitch. Fisher tramped off somewhat bemused by what had just happened.

Coad joined Martin at 88 for 1 and the pair of them batted comfortably going forward to win the game by 9 wickets. Coad finishing the game quite emphatically with two cover drives to end on 27 not out, Martin 37 not out. It was good to see Martin starting to look in some sort of nick.

Timperley had scored the runs needed in 24 overs allowing for an early finish.
