5th XI start cup challenge with a win

Unsurprisingly the Sunday team kicked off with a win to herald in the new season. Ameya and Rohan (32 wise years between them) showed how to control a run chase. It was nice to see our loyal supporters from the 1s and 2s watch and learn. Thank you Nath, Pagey & Fletch!

Brooklands won the toss and batted. Haris and Jurj opened proceedings. One of them should definitely not be bowling and it’s not Haris who looked sharp as usual. Doc seemed to age by the minute as the run rate nudged 10 after 10 overs. Vijay was cool as ever but then he wasn’t there through the carnage of the first six! A magnificent bowling effort from Mo , Raghu and the ever reliable skipper dragged us back into the game.

Chasing a respectable 161, Doc departed early after a couple of lusty blows. Zain aka Tik Tok megastar followed soon after. Rohan and Ameya played with maturity beyond their years, ably shepherded by Kabsy. Fittingly Ameya bought up a well deserved 50 to win the game.

Next up in the Cup is an away fixture at Ashton on Mersey. Can Doc or Raghu land one in the river...
