The teenage fast bowler dropped from the first team showed he wasn't taking his demotion lying down with a man of the match showing for the second team followed by 46 runs returning to the firsts in the 75 run cup win at Urmston 24 hours later.
Altrincham Grammar School pupil Thompson, along with Murtaza Khan took four wickets a piece for the seconds who left Upton languishing at 94 all out from 22 overs.
Thompson then top scored with 39 runs to see the seconds home - a triumph after which skipper Shahnawaz Khan hailed Thompson's contribution as "full of character and quality in a really pleasing performance."
It's been something of a roller coaster of late for the Timperley first team...convincing cup wins against Winnington Park and Urmston but a morale-sapping loss at Bramhall having beaten high riding aristocrats Alderley Edge.
The momentum at Bramhall changed when bowling ace Chris McCarthy dislocated a finger leaving Timperley with 10 men. Bramhall batted well to get to 195, a competitive total but one very capable of reaching, according to captain Ed Galley.
But the chase was poor with Jamie Matthews and Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins both out for ducks leaving Timperley under severe pressure at 29/4 and were eventually bowled out for a miserable 131.
Galley said: "It was a really frustrating day. We are unfortunately not putting together consistent performances. While we’ve scored 300 for the previous two weeks, we just have had too much reliance on Dan Scholz winning us games. We all need to contribute a bit more."
"We are moving into a big phase of cup cricket now, and two important league games so hopefully we can put together a few good performances and really gain some momentum at an important phase of the season."
