Smiles better for teenage ace Zaki

Smiles better for teenage ace Zaki

Sam Brooks29 Jun - 11:28

Zaki Khalid is smiling brighter than ever after his four wicket haul for Timperley seconds against Neston.

The 17 year old spinner who always has a sunny disposition went for just 28 runs in eight overs playing a big part restricting the visitors to 188.

But that wasn't enough as according to hard to please skipper Shahnawaz Khan the middle order needs to "show greater application" - and that meant they fell agonisingly two runs short in the chase.

It was however a personal triumph for Khalid, a college student with an interesting backstory.

With Pakistani and Latvian heritage, Khalid was raised in Limerick and still turns out for Munster where four years ago he was their player of the year.

And it's a little known fact that he has an eye for fashion - and at such a young age has a burgeoning business selling clothes.

Meanwhile the first team are handily placed at the half way stage of the season after having to settle for a winning draw at Chester Broughton Hall

Captain Ed Galley was impressed with the dominant display after losing openers Dan Scholz and Jamie Matthews early.

He said: "No one really managed to kick on to make a meaningful score until big South African Jonathan Fowler came in and took apart the home bowling attack in a truly outrageous display of hitting with a 71 not out to take out score to 271."

"We enjoyed another great start from our bowlers with Aryan Dash trapping the Chester opener LBW in his first over, and the same good start for Chris Page at the other end. Chester quickly decided to shut up shop making it difficult to create wicket taking opportunities and ambled themselves to 210 for 7 in their chase."

Galley concluded: "While not a win, Timperley come away with 16 points and finish the first half of the season in seventh place very much in touching distance of the teams above them who we face over the next month."
