Rosy future for Timperley cricket club with teenage stars fast emerging

Sam Brooks15 Sep - 13:44

Timperley first team skipper Ed Galley is forecasting a bright future after the emergence of teenage talent.

He picked out spinner Aryan Dash and Freddie Vaughan Hawkins who have played important roles for the team that finished a creditable fifth in the league.

And that sentiment was echoed by second team captain Shahnawaz Khan who saw another young player joining Joshua Van Dellen impressing on Saturday as they recorded their best win of the season demolishing Oxton at Stockport Road.

The latest in the class of 2025 to show his credentials was 15 year old Wellington School pupil Sammy Neville who on debut was amongst the catches as well as taking two wickets for just seven.

Khan picked up five for 14 as Oxton could only reach 67 in reply to Timperley's 210 all out with Ishaan Godhamgaonkar top scoring with 60 closely followed by Matthew Fletcher with 56.

Khan said : "Sammy is a promising player and joins the crop of young players who give us great hope for the future."

Timperley 1XI finished their season with an abandoned game at Alderley Edge in a battle for 4th place. Alderley won the toss and batted first putting on 246, a competitive score on shorter boundaries than normal. Nathan Brown in his last game for Timperley finishing with four wickets, another great display of spin bowling. Timperley only managed seven overs in the run chase as the rain won the battle on the last day of the season.

So Timperley finished fifth with skipper Galley believing the winter additions of Joe Ashmore, Zach Thompson, overseas player Tim Reynolds, and the returning Chris McCarthy boosted the squad.

Galley said :"I’m really proud of the boys, there has been some memorable standout performances with Reynolds, who finished 7th leading run scorer in the league with 737 runs, the excellent Chris Page 6th leading wicket taker with 41 wickets, and Jonathan Fowler 10th leading wicket taker with 37."

"It’s obviously going to be hard to replace long serving spin bowler Brown who has added so much value to our side."

Galley went on :"We do however have some amazing juniors coming through. It’s been great to see 14 year old left arm spinner Dash make the seamless jump up into 1st team cricket, and I’m really looking forward to him having a full season of with us."

"It’s also been so pleasing to see Vaughan Hawkins grow as a player and become a vital part of our batting line up with some top dominant performances that makes him one of if not the best junior player in the league - and we’re very proud that he’s at TCC."

"Looking forward with great confidence to next year, I think we’re in a great place as a club and team. We’ll look to hopefully keep the lads together with a similar looking side - and if we can add some extra quality to both batting and bowling then we’ll be a serious side to be reckoned with as we try to make even more of a challenge at the top of the table."
