Right Page for all conquering Timperley!

Right Page for all conquering Timperley!

Sam Brooks2 Jun 2025 - 10:47

Fiery Chris Page was the man of the match once again as high-riding Timperley CC's firsts powered to another win.

This time it was Brooklands who were well beaten by the team that had an unprecedented four schoolboy players in the team.

But it was pace bowler Page who was the undisputed star of the show with much of his typical aggressive performance down to the game starting an hour early due to league instructions as it was wrongly thought the visitors had a player who was turning out next day for the county and had to board an early bus on Sunday.

Grumpy Page, aged 37 went into the game with plenty of stubble bemoaning he hadn't had time for a shave!

He ended up with highly impressive figures of six for 47, got a run out and was still around to score the winning runs.

Afterwards he said: "It was quite a day...and I enjoyed my pint in the bar afterwards. I have had seven wickets in the past but they were my best figures so far this season."

Skipper Ed Galley, who was full of praise for Page's "immense" performance reflected on the fantastic balance in the team with four teenagers Freddie Vaughan-Hawkins, Zach Thompson, Aryan Dash and Josh Van Dellen complementing the more established players.

Galley said: "That's three wins on the bounce but not a great team performance. Brooklands were 16 for five thanks to Page or the Red Shed as he's known thanks to his ginger hair. We let them back in with untidy bowling and poor fielding and they ended at 199 all out."

"We were in total control in our reply but then typically started to let it slip. Credit Joe Ashmore for top scoring as we won by two wickets with six overs to spare. But the fact is we need to be more ruthless. We were pretty poor generally and will have to raise our game against top of the league Didsbury away on Saturday. "

Finally the Timperley seconds continued their season of woe...another morale-sapping defeat, this time at Brooklands.

Skipper Shahnawaz Khan was scathing about the slow scoring rate of so many of his batsmen - apart from opener and top scorer Jordan Ruff - which put pressure on those coming in later.

"We need to start playing more shots and therefore score more freely" said the demanding captain after his bottom of the league team scored a pitiful 153 which was overtaken with three overs to spare by the home side.
