New boy celebrates at the double as Timperley stun champs

Sam Brooks20 Apr - 09:39

Birthday boy Dan Scholz was an instant hero as Timperley first team put last season's champions Didsbury to the sword.

He hit a carefully constructed debut 50 to steer the team to a famous win in the first match of the season - 24 hours after celebrating his 26th birthday.

The Aussie signing had only been in the UK five days during which time suffering from jet lag no doubt he got lost shopping in Altrincham town centre!

It was eventful on Saturday night too when he wowed his admiring team mates sporting a Miley Cyrus top during a fund-raising S*** Shirt event.

Skipper Ed Galley described the morale boosting win in the game restricted to 27 overs due to time needed to dry out the run ups as a top performance - and a day to remember for Melbourne born Scholz.

In true all rounder style Scholz came away with an important run out, two wickets - and his match winning innings.

Galley said: "Timperley restricted Didsbury to 146 all out with wickets shared around the bowlers. The whole bowling unit performed their job brilliantly, with constant wickets curtailing a powerful Didsbury batting line up with the lads backed up the bowlers with a fielding performance that was near faultless in boggy outfield conditions."

"The Timperley batting line up in true style made hard work of what should have been an easier chase after Jamie Matthews and Scholzy put on 70 odd for the first wicket. Timperley eventual chased down the Didsbury total with nine balls to spare - a game that sets us up nicely for Hyde away on Saturday"

Captain Galley added:

"It was a top performance in which we outperformed Didsbury in all three facets. Scholzy was the star of the show with him and Jamie doing exactly what we spoke about at the break."
