Close but no cigar...

It was a glorious sunny day and on winning the toss, TCC captain Frank Gough opted to make first use of what liked like a belting track & a fast outfield.
Openers Bhatti & Khan soon settled to task and both seemed comfortable enough against a youthful Langley opening attack and scored freely of any bad ball offered. Bhattis bright start to his innings came to an end when he knicked off for 39 to the wicket keeper when looking well set. Khan soon followed thereafter in a similar fashion for 29 and Timperley needed to rebuild.
Usman & Fisher slowly built a partnership that would ultimately be worth 142 but did not press on quickly enough to reach a par of 270ish. Both played well after scratchy starts with Usman hitting some powerful shots in front of the wicket. Fisher was quick onto anything loose and actually looked like he knew what he was doing for the first time in a year. Usman fell Lbw for 52 late on and the question was whether Fisher could reach 100 before the innings closed. This he failed to do, finishing on 97 not out with Ben Clark completing a neat 7 not out at the other end. Timperley finishing on 238 for 3 off their allocated 40 overs.
In reply Langley got off to a flier as Gough & Phadake missed their line and length and were soon 70 odd for 0 off 8. Sajja came on first change and caused Hughes to drag on for 41. Usman then took a hat trick to seemingly gain control for Timperley but first Bowdon & then Wilkinson-Hall counter attacked to get back in it.
Bangee claimed Bowdon for 21 & Opener Boon fell to Usman for a well played 67. Then Wilkinson fell for 50 bowled by Clark. When Anderson left soon thereafter, it appeared that Timperley were going to win. Unfortunately nobody had told youngsters Boon and Jones who scored 29 in quick time to win by two wickets with three balls to spare.
A combination of shortcomings in all parts of the game cost Timperley dear in the end.
