The only other player showing his true form was Jonathan Fowler with the big South African fast bowler picking up six wickets as high riding Hyde were restricted to 246 all out.

But then the home side apart from Vaughan-Hawkins flopped - and have now gone four games without a win.

With Lancs ace George Balderson leading the charge backed up by skipper Andrew Jackson, Timperley capitulated. Vaughan-Hawkins, who put his personal success down in part to changing his bat at the drinks break, praised Balderson's impact.

"He showed why he has taken 170 first class wickets" lamented Vaughan-Hawkins adding: "We shouldn't be too downbeat with so many home grown players in our team."

Skipper Ed Galley, who had an impromtu outdoor half hour inquest into the latest batting collapse, said: "We were in an almost un-lose able position after ever reliant Chris Page and particularly Fowler worked over the Hyde batters with accurate and skilled bowling."

The former decimated Hyde’s top tier attack to all areas of the ground in a dominating display of clean hitting eventually bringing up an excellent first league century of the season to put Timperley within sight of victory."

"At 189-4 at drinks needing 57 to win, Timperley looked certain to triumph - but then came a crazy half an hour spell with our remaining batting line up losing their nerve to lose our final six wickets for just nine runs to fall 48 runs short of Hyde’s total."

Twenty four hours later after a cup defeat at Brooklands, Galley concluded : "We just simply haven’t got the bottle to get over the line in a run chase. This is probably the biggest frustration, as we’re falling short of how good we actually are as a side."

Skipper Shahnawaz Khan bemoaned 19 wides and the fact his team need to be more clinical as the Timperley second team lost by five wickets at Toft.

And there were defeats for the third team also against North East Cheshire and a ten wicket hammering for the fourth team at Middlewich ... so all four senior teams lost in a most miserable weekend for the club.
