Firebrand pace bowler in brilliant form as Timperley go third in league

Sam Brooks26 May - 15:42

It's never dull with Timperleys first team...

Timperley's own Jekyll and Hyde character Chris Page returned his best bowling figures of the season as Timperley shot to third in the table with a second win on the bounce.

Softly spoken Chris off the pitch and super aggressive on it, the 37 year old pace bowler had Lindow on the rack with five wickets from 36.

His performance from 13 overs was described as brilliant by skipper Ed Galley who was also full of praise for teenager Zach Thompson who landed two key wickets from successive balls.

Lindow had made a promising start at 128-2 but the visitors eventually bowled them out for a competitive total of 182 on what was a tricky wicket.

In reply, Timperley, who were rocked by the absence of Ollie Byrne who jetted off on holiday after the team had been selected looked to rally.

But that meant a first team debut for 15 year old Cheshire county starlet Josh Van Dellen who shaped up nicely for his 10. Josh proved once again the quality of our young TCC players that are pushing for spots in the top team.

Galley said : "Timperley overtook the Lindow target with four wickets spare thanks to inform Jamie Matthews and wicket keeper Freddie Vaughan Hawkins contributing with 40s. As well as Joe Ashmore with a gritty 24 not out alongside Chris McCarthy whose recent emergence has coincided with our good form. He finished the game off with a quick 35."

"This was a great performance from us to drag the game back at drinks courtesy of Nathan Brown and Thompson who changed the game. Great credit to Page with another stellar display. Again, Fred and Jamie batted with great class to set the game up for us in what was a tricky chase. In the end we made it a relatively comfortable victory. With two wins in succession it sets us up nicely for a big derby against Brooklands next Saturday at home.A bumpy crowd is expected."

Meanwhile the second team lost - and skipper Shahnawaz Khan again blasted the team's batsmen for only scoring 174 off 41 overs.

He said: "We needed fifty or sixty more. The bowling was good."

Sixteen year old Jamie Spencer however hit his first second team 50 and did his fast emerging all rounder reputation no harm with two wickets and a spectacular catch.

Rob Matthews scored a creditable 29 but Stockport Georgians won by three wickets. Another teenager Aryan Dash picked up three wickets for 45 so at least he can hold his head high.
