Ed leads Timperley to a Winning Weekend

Ed leads Timperley to a Winning Weekend

Sam Brooks23 Jun - 14:31

First team Skipper Ed Galley led the way to as Timperley recorded a double winning weekend.

Beginning with a resounding win on the Wirral in the League, they followed it up by moving into the Cheshire Cup quarter finals with victory over Alderley Edge.

Galley has been in the runs over the past few weeks and continued his top form, not only with the bat, but with the ball as well.

Looking to bounce back from a defeat to Hyde last weekend, the firsts travelled to Oxton and set the home side a competitive 204 in a rain affected game. Galley and Joe Ashmore both posting well-made 50s, as they put on 111 for the 3rd wicket. Despite Galley feeling they had left runs out in the middle, it was more than a competitive score.

Opening bowler Jono Fowler set the tone brilliantly and he earned his rewards with 3 wickets in a highly skilled display of swing bowling. It was set up nicely for spin duo of Nathan Brown and Ashmore to take full advantage of a turning pitch to skittle through the rest of the crumbling Oxton order for 76. Brown finishing with figures of 4-13 from 8 miserly overs and Ashmore 2-11.

Modestly skipper Ed was quick to praise the contribution of Ashmore, a winter signing from Grappenhall. “It was great to get some runs out there with Joe, I think we both applied ourselves brilliantly on a tricky wicket and nullified their biggest threats with the ball well. I’m really pleased for Joe who got his first Timperley 50 and he bowled beautifully too”.

Timperley then went on to beat Alderley Edge in the Cheshire Cup on Sunday and again Galley, having a weekend to remember, led from the front with 4 wickets and a quicker than run a ball 55, to steer his team home. It was a solid team performance with Ollie Byrne bagging 3 wickets, Fred Vaughan-Hawkins hitting 47 and Nathan Brown, who also had a fine all-round weekend, scoring 31.

Galley’s team are third in the League with Hyde and Didsbury in their crosshairs as the half way point of the season approaches. Alderley will be looking for instant revenge when they travel to Stockport Road on Saturday, 12:00 start

Timperley 2nd XI looked to build on last week’s victory and they got off to a great start with a 96 run opening partnership between Felix Birtles and Jordan Ruff. Stat fans will no doubt be impressed to learn that the first single didn’t come until the score had reached 70!

A well-constructed 71 from Rob Matthews helped them to 267 and Hyde were immediately under pressure chasing the high target with Doc leading the way with 4 wickets as they restricted the visitors to 174 all out. The skipper was delighted with what he called “a disciplined and energetic team effort” which sealed a convincing win.
