Battle lines drawn to be Timperley player of the year

Battle lines drawn to be Timperley player of the year

Sam Brooks22 Sep - 15:30

Timperley's top batsman and ace bowler are going head to head...but not on the pitch!

For Aussie pro Tim Reynolds and fast bowler Chris Page are the frontrunners to be voted the first team player of the year at the joint AGM and presentation evening on October 10th.

They will already be expecting to be named best batsman and top bowler after scoring most runs and taking the highest number of wickets but the "big one" is hard to call.

Club insiders are not ruling out dark horse Freddie Vaughan Hawkins to pick up votes after the teenagers very strong season for both Timperley and Cheshire county teams.

The current holder is Page's strike bowling partner Jonathan Fowler who picked up the top individual honour from 2023 winner, overseas pro Caedence Kuepper.

With a question mark over whether big hitting popular Reynolds comes back next year, club officials have been putting out feelers to assess who could come in if Reynolds doesn't return from Down Under.

Meanwhile Jurjees Hasan, the club chairman has given his assessment of the season.

He said: "It has been an amazing season at Timperley. Helped by some good weather we played over 250 games with some 180 players across all age groups representing the club. There were record crowds to watch the home games.

"There are many highlights to share from junior to senior cricket that we will celebrate at our award presentation evenings for juniors on October 3rd and Seniors a week later. I wish to pay tribute to the sterling efforts of our grounds team led by Andy Horsfield, to all the committee members and volunteers who have helped us host a successful season

"Meanwhile the work continues in the off season after a short period of well earned rest. Winter nets will resume in January. Importantly 2027 will mark 150 years of Timperley cricket club. Several events are planned to celebrate our sesquicentennial anniversary. We will update the membership in the coming few months and we'd of course be delighted if our members and parents wish to volunteer for the programme."
