On yet another hot Saturday, Langley opted to bat first on a decent looking back pitch at Timperley. They were soon in trouble though as opening bowlers Hasan and Ahmed got the ball to nibble around by bowling a full length on a straight line and were soon 3 down for not many, all caught behind the wicket. This good work was continued by Gough who picked up from Hasan to also take a couple of wickets and at drinks Langley were 70 odd for 5.
Unfortunately Timperleys fielding and bowling discipline wilted in the heat and Langley recovered via the bats of Simnet (84), Moore (30) and Barber (46) to post 190 for 9 in their allocation.
In reply Timperley initially laboured to get away an accurate attack with only Mahesh (21) and Matheen (34) batting with any fluency and at 99 for 5 the game was delicately poised. Cometh the hour, cometh the man as the say and so captain Vipal Garg took the cudgel to the Langley attack striking a rapid fire 70 not out to rip the game from Langleys hands to win by 3 wickets. It was great to see Vipal getting back to something like his best and striking the ball cleanly around the park. Howdle was the pick of the Langley bowling with 3 for 38 off 10.
An important win for the 4th XI that will certainly lift morale and hopefully kick start their season.
