Dear Academy Member & Parent

The 2017 cricket season begins next month. The Academy organises structured programmes for youngsters up to the age of 18 and will run six squads across this age range. Both boys and girls are welcome to be involved in these programmes.

This season the Academy will delivering the All Stars Cricket campaign that is a nationwide programme developed by the ECB and their Elite Coach Development team that aims to inspire 5 to 8 year olds to take up cricket and join their local club – see further details below.
Academy sides this year will play in the Cheshire County and/or South Manchester Junior Cricket Leagues as follows:
• U9 South Manchester and Cheshire County Junior Cricket Leagues
• U11 South Manchester and Cheshire County Junior Cricket Leagues
• U13 South Manchester and Cheshire County Junior Cricket Leagues
• U15 Cheshire County Junior Cricket League
• U18 South Manchester Junior Cricket League
The Cheshire County Cricket League Junior Section (CCCL) has arranged fixtures for U13s, & U15s on Sunday mornings commencing at 09.30, for U11’s on selected week day evenings at 6.15 in a 10-a-side cup competition and for U9’s the matches are arranged between clubs involved in league organised weekly fixtures. The South Manchester Junior Cricket League (SMJCL) arranges fixtures for U13s on Friday evenings at 6.15, for U11s on Sundays at 10.00 and for U9’s matches are arranged between clubs. The fixture list is attached to this email and will also be posted on the Club notice board.
The summer season will begin with a registration event on Saturday 8th April in the Club function room (commencing from 10.30 through to 12.00). The purpose of the registration day is for the juniors and their parents to complete all the administration activities, such as membership application, consent form signing, subscription payment etc. plus meeting coaches and team managers. There is to be a second event organised for Saturday 22nd April in the Club lounge, again starting at 10.30 through to 12.00 for those unable to make the first event. Please try to attend one of the two events to avoid coaches and team managers having to deal with administration tasks prior to practice sessions and matches.
This year the Academy has decided to organise practice sessions for the younger age groups on Sundays mornings which hopefully will be more convenient for parents to bring their children to the sessions and stay to watch. Organised practice mornings will begin on Sunday 8th April from 10.30 to 12.00 for the U9 and U11 age groups.
There will also be a practice session on Monday evenings, commencing the 9th April, at the Club net area for the U11’s squad preparing for matches. The U11 squad coach will contact those U11’s to be invited to practice on Monday evenings. The U13s squad will practice in the nets on Tuesdays and the U15’s on Wednesdays both with a start time of 18.00. Each age squad will have coaches that will organise a programme across a number of weekly sessions with individual coaching being available and individual performance recorded / monitored with the squad managers both within the coaching sessions and during the league / friendly games. If any parents are prepared to help out on each of the two evenings with any group, you would be extremely welcome and can find out more by speaking to one of the coaches on the registration day or at one of the coaching sessions.
Over the winter two of the Club’s senior cricket coaches have run a development programme for a number of Academy players providing specific coaching techniques. The aim of this new programme, which will continue through the summer, is to identify and coach Academy players who display a talent that, when developed, have the potential to be invited to county development programmes.
For this season the lead coaches for each of the four age groups are:
• Under 9s & U11’s on Sunday mornings – Nathan Brown
• Under 11s match squad – Will Cross
• Under 13s – Danny Cooper
• Under 15s – Nathan Brown
For youngsters under the age of 9, who either are not able to attend the Sunday morning sessions or feel they are too young, there will now be the ALL STARS campaign that will be hosted by a Club coach as an after-school session on Tuesday’s which parents can register through the ECB website www.ecb.co.uk/allstarscricketcentres

With the success of the senior teams last year, both retaining their status in the Cheshire County Premier League, plus the strong reputation of the Club within the South Trafford and Cheshire areas, there are advantages to local companies in partnering with the Club in sponsorship opportunities. If anybody wishes to obtain more details on the various packages available then please contact Martin Porthouse at mp@exchange-street.co.uk
As in previous seasons a single payment will be charged at the beginning of the season to cover the costs incurred in delivering academy cricket, in addition to the annual membership figure charged by the Club. For the forthcoming season the proposed junior membership figure is to increase to £60 and this is expected to be confirmed at the Club’s AGM towards the end of next month. To run the summer programme with training equipment, match balls, league fees, coaching fees and trophies, the cost exceed £3500. In addition, the section will continue to offer match shirts, see image below, to new members at the two registration events at no cost to ensure teams have the same branding when playing matches.

Consequently, to cover the costs and provide free match shirts, the additional payment will apply of £40 per junior at age groups under 9 and £50 for the remaining age groups.
Any club that invites persons under the age of 18 to partake in cricket outside their home environment, or relies upon such persons to provide a foundation, upon which their club is constructed, has an irrefutable responsibility to safeguard the welfare and safety of those young people whilst in their care. Every club has a ‘Duty of Care’ to fulfil, meaning that clubs must do all that they can to protect children in their ‘care’. Additional information on the Club’s policy on safeguarding children is provided through a separate document plus a form required to be completed and signed that will be held by the Club to meet a key requirement of the ECB ClubMark accreditation criteria. This information will be available for reference at the registration day or by request by contacting Bob at bobjpage@tiscali.co.uk
The Cricket Section has a Club Welfare Officer (CWO), Nathan Brown, whose role is to advise and ensure that child welfare and protection is being adhered to both in the section and in the Club. Nathan acts as a first point of contact for any person in cricket at the Club level who has a concern about child welfare and protection. His contact details are: (M) 07546 925842 nprb1992-@hotmail.com. The CWO role and contact details are displayed on the Cricket notice board in the Club foyer. All Club members and coaches working with children are all verified through the Disclosure & Baring Service (DBS) with coaches having valid certificates of qualification.
To be able to run the summer programme involving league organised matches across all the age groups requires a significant amount of support from parents to manage the teams and officiate in the matches. The section has organised the coaching programme throughout the summer but now requires parents to volunteer. If your son or daughter is hoping to play competitive cricket this summer then I ask you to consider volunteering for a role (manager, umpire or scorer) to ensure the arranged fixtures are successfully organised. Please respond by emailing Bob on bobjpage@tiscali.co.uk or speaking to one of the section officials at the two events.
If there are any daughters/sisters/mothers of any age who are interested in trying cricket as a summer sport then a festival event is being arranged by Cheshire Cricket and the Club for Sunday 7th May and followed by weekly coaching sessions on Wednesday’s at 16.30. Details of both will be in the News tab on the Club website www.timperley-sports.com and on posters pinned to the Club’s notice boards.
With the success of the seniors and juniors last season plus the junior development programmes over the winter there is a great deal of optimism within the section for this season. We hope all who are involved will enjoy playing cricket at Timperley this year.

We look forward to seeing you on either the 8th or 22nd April and during the season.

Cricket Section Chairman

Tim Lucas
