Come on batters - step up!

With the heavens opening in Timperley at midday I suspected it might be a long on / off day for Cricket. Silly boy. 200 metres from home I had passed the edge of the storm and meandered my way to Wilmslow where it was dry...

The skipper called incorrectly again and was asked to bat. Things went rapidly down hill as the Lindow opening bowling partnership of Coffey & Wilson strangled the life out of Timperley's top order. Bhatti was Lbw to Wilson for 7 and at the other end the youthful Coffey bowled with good control to get Shah caught at mid wicket for 1 and bowling Usman for 9. The top order died when Fisher smashed a half volley straight down mid offs throat for 0 to leave Timperley at 24 for 4.

The middle order did not do much better and Lindow, aided by some benevolent umpiring, reduced Timperley to 33 for 7. The only bright spot of the Timperley innings was a brisk 17 from Phadake that bumped the score up to a paltry 59 all out.

It was obvious that Timperley would need to bowl & field well and have a lot of luck to get anything out of the game so entered the field in a relaxed mood. Khan started an ember of of hope by bowling Hassard around his legs for 2 and then Usman had Peel caught behind for 0. Was a miracle commencing? Khan then bowled Carroll for 15 and Usman held a sharp caught & bowled chance to dismiss Ashworth for 5 and Lindow were 26 for 4. Phadake then ran out Bolingroke and it was 36 for 5 and I suspect that the Lindow changing room was slightly anxious at that point.

Unfortunately that was the end of the fairy tale as a couple of bad overs relieved the pressure and Kendrick (21 not out) and Bracewell (15 not out) saw Lindow home.

Timperley were well beaten again and the top order need to start delivering soon or the team will continue to struggle.

It should be noted that Kantappa turned up bearing food gifts after the match. His statement that 'it was team food for the Tea break' fell on deaf ears as it was obviously a substantial bribe being offered to the captain in lieu of selection for next week. We will have to track selection to see if such illicit activities work...
