No end of season fireworks

As usual the team congregated just in time for the start of the match. Boring, predictable & frustrating but hey ho the games set themselves up you know (or so it seems to some).

The weather was set fair and on winning the toss Mo decided that we should bat first and that batting position was to be drawn by ballot. Krishna & Karl got first dibs and were soon back in the hutch, bowled & Lbw respectively. 4 for 2. This brought together the new top middle order of Raj & Pushka to the crease and they made a decent fist of repairing the situation with some diligent defence and clubbing of the bad ball to the boundary. It looked as if Push had developed an aversion to running hitting 8 fours and a six in a 33 ball 41 that should have been bigger & better. Unfortunately he fell Lbw & that was that. Zain & Mo had a go to little effect with Mo doing his best to score a duck. Fortunately his first scoring shot was palmed over the bar for a six.

With Zain stumped & Mo Lbw, Kabir began feasting on the end of term bowling scoring 29 in only 16 balls but then holed out at cover via a lazy shot. Raj fell top edging for a patient 27 and Will Lbw for a quacker. Was struck 36 but I do not remember one shot of it - strange. On his dismissal Gary & Tayyab had a go at the gentle bowling to take the score to 198 before Gary played his umpteenth poor shot of the season to be caught at gully for 26. Tayyab 18 not out.

The new pill was tossed to Kabir and his spell declined with age but he had a decent shout for Lbw against Willard declined. Was bowled at the other end but looked as if his batting had drained his superpowers down. It took the introduction of Tayyab to make the breakthrough getting an edge well held by Mo low down at slip. Wickets fell every 10 runs or so thereafter and Brooklands did not look as if they would press through to victory despite Karl's bowling offering down the leg side. Zain had a go as well but it was Cross, Mo & Pushka who hoovered up the wickets for a 30 run victory in a dead rubber.

Another season passes. 3rd in the league is fair enough as I doubt that the team would flourish in a higher division.
