On Saturday we took on runaway leaders and unbeaten Oxton. Fletch once again lost the toss and we batted first for the 3rd week running. Last week’s centurion Aadam missed a straight one in the first over but thereafter Freddie and The Doc steadied the ship and were looking good. Freddie then chipped one back to the bowler and was called a ****ing idiot by his Dad (a shout probably reciprocated on Sunday when Dad gave him out LBW on 95!!).
Doc and Rob then got 2 unplayable long hops in the same over and we were then struggling on 55-4. Ports and Felo then knuckled down. Ports was patient and fluent for his 58, whereas Felo was everything but in his 28 but fortunately the return of the charity walkers diverted everyone’s attention from it. They took the score on to 135 before both succumbing as they tried to up the rate. A few lusty slogs from Tom Matthews helped get the score to 176 which seemed a par score according to the skip.
It looked well under par after Fletch got pumped by the opening bat (Perry) in his first 5 overs which must’ve gone for nearly 50. Fortunately the biggest 6 resulted in a lost ball and the change of ball changed the game. Aadam got the other opener out and then Doc got his fellow smasher out with his first ball. From 80-1 after 9 overs they then collapsed to 118-7 due to some fine bowling from Doc, Dhanush and Rob.
Fletch then sniffed a chance to resurrect his figures and had a go at the tail. A couple of wickets for him (2 for 66 off 8.3) and one for Tom finally got rid of a competent tail, far more competent in fact than their middle order it has to be said. A shout out for Jody for taking three important catches but work is definitely required on his returning the ball to the bowler, adults can take the ball on the full you know!!
A great win and a great day at the club, well played everyone.
